AMERICAN MOVIES MATTER

The mission of American Movies Matter is to renew public appreciation for American film as a source of storytelling, employment, imagination, shared memory, national identity, cultural exchange, and influence. 

Movies are commonly discussed through the language of box office performance, celebrity, awards, technology, and corporate economics. Those subjects matter. But they do not exhaust the public meaning of film.  Movies also shape childhood memories, introduce people to unfamiliar lives, preserve history, enlarge empathy, create common reference points, and carry American stories across the world.

American Movies Matter seeks to bring that broader meaning back into public view. Rather than instructing audiences what to think, it asks people what they know from their own experience.
